Pont Valley Opencast Petition

Say NO to opencasting in the Pont Valley

I/We the undersigned call on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to reject the application by UK Coal to opencast coal from the 'Bradley' site in the Pont Valley for the following reasons:

• The damage that would be caused to the wildlife and environment of the Pont and Derwent Valleys;
• The danger from heavy lorries  and increased traffic on nearby roads;
• The problem of noise and dust from the site;
• The damage that would be caused to the growing tourism industry of the area;
• The burning of coal will add to global warming at a time when renewable energy supplies should be developed.
