Billingside Field Surveys
Two documents have been scanned and merged to produce a composite map. This shows, as we have said elsewhere, that the site location of the Bradley Surface Coal Mining Scheme (shown in UK Coal's Consultation Leaflet) is almost exactly identical to what was formerly proposed by British Coal in 1986. This map will shortly be added to this page as a link here and is available already in the documents library.
North East Land Developments (NEDL) were kind enough to give us a detailed Planning Application and Environmental and Supporting Statement in respect of what was then called "The Drovers Site Planning Application considered and rejected in 2001. What has changed since then? We propose to carry out our own field surveys using this composite map.
It will not be possible to conduct a full survey in single sessions! But using UK Coal's own information which we will have to hand we intend to progressively add not only UK Coal's information, Section by Section, page by page, to our website, but to include information previously not included and present the facts impartially - as well as correcting any factual inaccuracies or laying greater emphasis on aspects previously under-stated! The relevant sections are already shown in the NOTT campaign section.
Some more detailed surveys, for example in relation to sub-surface geology or hydology, are beyond our expertise or existing resources. But we may observe and record what we observe at the surface, in terms of flora and fauna, field boundaries, wetlands, habitat and heritage, pre and post industrial archeaology and so on. Where we might not readily observe, we may at least assess - not speculate - and make notes for future more expert evaluation.
To do this effectively we will need to work in groups, share our existing expertise and work methodically. So come prepared, learning can be fun! We will provide each work group with paper maps and establish a resource centre at the time of each survey and give advance notice through an announcement on site.
